In recent months, the efforts to reduce the prices of the basic basket in Mexico have been evident, however, in this company, the participation of various convenience and self-service stores has been requested as Walmart and HEB; for that reason the Federal Consumer Attorney (Profeco) It has gone to extremes in its methods to point out which are those that are seeking to generate a change that obeys the trend of increasing the minimum wage.
This measure was proposed by the Government of the Q4 from PACIC2.0 with the intention of combating the high prices generated by inflation. Among the culprits, according to the institution, are precisely some of these self-service stores.
HEB and Walmart among the most expensive self-service stores according to Profeco
As a result of the pandemic and what happened between Russia and Ukraine, the inflationary crisis has skyrocketed throughout the world. In much of the world, the energies were the most affected. In national territory, that place is occupied by food.
For this reason, many analysts believe that Mexico It suffers from a domestic inflationary crisis, much more than the energy crisis, where by the way it is the country with the best numbers among the members of the OECD.
Although it is not a secret for consumers that buying groceries in Mexico is becoming more and more complicated, since everything is becoming more and more expensive, the work between public and private initiative seems to be reducing costs to a great extent. Despite everything, self-service stores and supermarkets have not only maintained the prices of some supplies, but have also increased them, which is why Profeco has set its sights on them.
The Attorney, Richard Sheffield, recently highlighted which are the self-service stores that charge a higher price than that indicated within the basic basket.
Among the locations with the highest prices are the North Central Zone of the country, where the final price of the 24 products in the basic basket reaches 1,112.40 pesos. This is located in Casa Ley in Baja California Sur (La Paz), this being the most expensive of all.
As for the North Zone, it is placed in second position, registering only one peso with 50 cents below, in Ley Vado del Río, Hermosillo, Sonora.
For the third consecutive week, the HEB store located in León Guanajuato was shown to be the most expensive in the Downtown Zone, although the latter did manage to register a drop of six pesos, so it is expected that its price will soon be regulated. Currently, its price is one thousand 45 pesos.
Finally, in the South-Southeast Zone, a Central de Abasto rose as the most expensive with 1,089 pesos in Mérida, Yucatán. In addition to this, it showed a considerable increase of 24 pesos compared to last week. In addition to this, in the same area, Walmart ranks as the second most expensive place in Solidaridad, Quintana Roo, registering 1,32.50 pesos.
