The Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers turns 63 in 2022.
According to Statista, During the year 2020 there were 13.5 million rights holders registered in the ISSSTE.
The general director of ISSSTE, Pedro Zenteno Santaella, commented that the Institute’s health services have been exceeded. This was during a visit by the official to Córdoba to supervise the first level Family Medicine Clinic.
During the appearance before the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, the director of the ISSSTE indicated that they should serve 80% of their beneficiaries at the first level of care, however, the health services that they have in their medical units and offices they are overrun
That said, the official highlighted that in more than 60 years of existence, the ISSSTE went from serving around 500,000 beneficiaries at the national level to more than 14 million beneficiaries today with almost the same infrastructure as decades ago, which has caused a delay in health services.
“The infrastructure of the institute did not grow at the rate of entitlement, we have a significant lag, we have an average of 45 years per hospital, that is the average age of hospitals in ISSSTE,” he explained.
He also commented that work is being done to regulate the drug coverage system for beneficiaries, which at the national level is around 97% and at the state level is around 90 or 91%, adding that the goal is to reach 100 percent of coverage.
The Director of ISSSTE pointed out that in order to solve part of this lag in infrastructure, a proposal has already been submitted for the improvement of several medical units and even for the construction of at least six hospitals in states where the infrastructure lag is greater.
