Kirby and the Forgotten Land It is now available. This title marks the first main adventure of this pink ball in full 3D. Although it is still too early to talk about the future of this character, the HAL Laboratory team, the developers of this installment, and Nintendo, are open to more games in this direction.
In a new issue of Ask The Developer, Shinya Kumazaki, director of Kirby, and Kei Ninomiya, Nintendo associate producer of the latest Kirby game, discussed the future direction of the series. Although they did not confirm if the next title will be in 3D, they did talk about the possibilities for the series. This was what Kumazaki commented:
“This title was the biggest project in the entire Kirby series so far. For a while, I felt like we couldn’t release a core game, but now I’m overwhelmed to see our team’s efforts finally blossom and deliver a 3D action Kirby game to gamers around the world. Also, throughout this production, we were able to create an environment where we can take on new challenges with our most trusted staff members. Kirby still has limitless potential. We look forward to being even wilder and freer when we create future Kirby titles.”
For his part, these were Ninomiya’s comments:
“In fact, we were concerned that Kirby’s most beloved qualities might have to be scaled back to better suit a full 3D action game. However, once we completed the creation of the game, it became clear that this is a fun-filled title that still feels like Kirby and is easy to enjoy. That gave me a lot of confidence. This title encourages us to continue creating games that appreciate Kirby’s ‘Kirbyness’, and challenges us to do many new things in the future, both in 2D and 3D.”
Although at the moment it is unknown what direction Kirby will take, the critical success of The Forgotten Land reveals that another installment in 3D will be received with open arms. In related topics, you can check our review of this juice here.
Editor’s Note:
More Kirby games in 3D, with a greater focus on exploration, sounds like a logical step for the series, and one that many will welcome. Now we just have to wait and see how well this game does in terms of sales, although considering that the fiscal period is almost over, we probably won’t see such big initial numbers.
