TAG Airlines is a Guatemalan company founded in 1961, which currently operates 27 daily flights in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Belize with a fleet of more than 20 aircraft, including Embraer ERJ 145 and EMB 110, Saab 340, among others.
The airline is entering a market dominated by Mexican companies. During June, Aeroméxico concentrated almost 54% of passengers, mainly with flights from its subsidiary Aeroméxico Connect, while Volaris concentrates 46% of the market, mainly through its subsidiary Volaris Costa Rica.
The routes between Mexico and Guatemala carried around 40,000 passengers per month before the pandemic. However, between April and September 2020, flights between the two countries were suspended, continuing until October.
In the first half of the year, Guatemala was the third largest market in Central America to Mexico, where Panama concentrates more than 60% of passengers, followed by Costa Rica (17.8%) and Guatemala (13.7%). Until June, flights between the two countries had recovered 40.3% of their pre-pandemic levels.
