Group Model bet to join the world sustainable creating new ecological beer packaging, reducing 335 tons of garbage in packaging waste annually.
Today there are different brands that manage to quench the “thirst” of millions of people around the world with a particular drink, beer. In accordance with Statista, beer is the alcoholic beverage of choice by consumers in Mexico, since the sale of these registers the figure of 185,375.8 million Mexican pesos, while in second place is the sale of tequila with 44,637.12 million pesos and other agave drinks only 5,093 million pesos.
This is achieved year after year thanks to the presence of different leading brands in their sector, which even manage to position themselves as some of the most important for the country. A report published by Brand Finance shows that between Most Valuable Mexican Brands of 2021 for brand equity, Crown leads the list with 5.82 billion dollars, in second place is Pemex with 5.55 billion, in third Clear with 4.66 billion, in fourth Victory with 4.04 billion and Model with 3.37 billion, among others.
The beer brands show its importance for the Mexican consumer; However, the sale of these has a considerable environmental impact, since their packaging generates a high number of waste, being part of the problem that we have seen for years with the greenhouse effect and global warming, a fact that some companies treat to eradicate.
Taking into account that climate change has significantly affected the environment, Group Model has chosen to create a new alternative to transport their new packaging from beer, in favor of sustainability.
On this occasion Grupo Modelo has invested more than 80 million pesos for the elimination of the plastic rings in its beer cans that will be distributed in Quintana Roo, becoming the first company in America to adopt the CanCollar® Eco technology, with which it will be possible to avoid approximately 335 tons of waste in packaging annually. According to a statement, Soqui Calderón, regional director of sustainability from Group Model:
“After a pilot program of Crown in Tulum, in Group Model We continue to bet on innovation in the search for alternatives for plastic rings in the packaging of beer cans. It was thus that we found CanCollar® Eco, a new solution made from recyclable cardboard and that, thanks to its design and technology, consumes less material to support and secure our beer cans throughout the supply chain ”.
This decision would make it possible to eliminate the plastic rings from the cans sold in Quintana Roo in two stages, first in the 6-pack of Crown Extra, Model Special Y Montejo, with the forecast that by the first quarter of 2022 they can accelerate the speed of their process to also eliminate the plastic rings of the brands Black Model, Barrel Y Victory.
As a new alternative, said Sustainable beer packaging from Grupo Modelo They would no longer consist of a cardboard box that completely covers the product, since CanCollar Eco only uses one layer of cardboard to support the upper part of the cans, with the goal of taking 12 million plastic rings off the market per year.
That brands show alternative solutions to conventional ones for be in favor of sustainabilityNot only does it help to reduce the environmental impact of these they generate, but they also improve the perception of consumers of their image, as well as increase their brand value.
Similarly, different companies have benefited from making alternatives in favor of the environment, in terms of monetary terms we mean; According to a study conducted by GlobalWebindex, 6 out of 10 millennials, 58 percent of generation X, 55 percent of generation X and almost half of the baby boomers, are willing to pay a higher price for green and sustainable products, a fact that manages to improve the image of the brands before the rest of the world.
Different brands in their respective industries have shown their interest in being in favor of sustainability, as FedEx was a few weeks ago, one of the most important logistics and transportation companies today, which announced its integration towards a “more future green ”when buying a fleet of electric vans that will allow the shipment of their packages, a fact that they seek to expand over the years.
More and more companies from different industries show their interest in joining the eco-friendly trend, either for moral, image or economic interests.
