Last month, the Government of the Canary Islands in Spain signed a collaboration protocol with Alastria for the implementation of the blockchain in the digital transformation process of the Canary Islands.
This agreement, which would have been signed by the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the president of Alastria, Miguel Ángel Domínguez, According to a statement from Alastria, the Canary Islands are now the second community, after Madrid, to becomes part of a large network made up of 500 partners from public and private organizations, individual experts and individual experts who favor the implementation, standardization, protection and use of technologies such as Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) or blockchain, while promoting their knowledge in citizenship and promote its use among administrations, companies and other social agents.
During the signing of the agreement the president of the Canary Islands, highlighted the opportunities offered by blockchain technology to improve the transmission of information, waste control, sustainable mobility, monitoring of air quality in future smart cities, a topic in which, according to “The Canary Islands are determined to take firm steps”he pointed.
In this sense, Torres also stated that Digitization has to be at the service of citizens, it should be noted that this is one of the axes for the transformation of the Canary Islands, and for this reason the budget in its annual digital planning has been quadrupled, with 23 million euros.
For its part, the president of Alastria, He stressed that this agreement will make it easier for Canarian companies to adopt this technology at an excellent time due to its level of technological maturity and according to regulations. He also assured that public-private collaboration will allow these benefits to reach the public sector, the business sector and citizens.
Finally, The Alastria representative also pointed out that the largest companies in the country are working together with SMEs to, according to him, build a technological ecosystem that allows the creation of new digital businesses and the improvement of efficiencies that make companies more competitive and sustainable.
