Corning he set out to design glass that could better withstand impact on concrete, which the company says is the most abundantly engineered material in the world. Under this idea was born Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The company assures that “in laboratory tests, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 survived drops of up to one meter onto a concrete-like surface”.
According to the report published on the website of Trusted Reviewsthis new generation maintains the same scratch resistance as the first Victus screen technology.
“Competitive aluminosilicate glasses from other manufacturers typically failed when dropped from two feet or less. In addition, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 continued to survive drops of up to two meters onto an asphalt-like surface and maintained up to four times better scratch resistance than competitive aluminosilicate.Corning added.
What phones will this new technology reach?
The technology will reach the first smartphones in the coming months, Corning says. That means it is likely that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Arrives packed with technology. Its predecessor, the S22, is currently equipped with Victus+.
For its part, Apple is a major investor in Corning and the iPhone 14 range has Victus on board. That almost certainly means that the iPhone 15 next year it will be equipped with Victus 2.
Phones like the Sony Xperia 5 IV, Google Pixel 7 Pro, and OnePlus 10T are currently equipped with Gorilla Glass Victus, so it’s likely the next generation of those phones will get an upgrade as well. Overall, the company says Gorilla Glass has now been used on 8 billion devices by 45 brands.
Corning noted: “Smartphones are at the center of our digital lives, and the requirement for exceptional scratch and drop resistance has only increased with our growing reliance on clear, damage-free displays.”.
