As part of efforts to improve the internet experience in Mexico, a collaboration between Google and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, with which it is planned install a Google Cloud cloud region in the countrythis with the aim of benefiting all types of companies.
This project will cost $1.2 billion pesos, and aims to provide 5G service on a larger scale, as well as improve the experience and support for the different companies in Mexico. This was what Julio Velázquez, director of Google Cloud Mexico, commented:
“I am very excited because not only are we going to create more opportunities, jobs and talent, but in the future it will allow us to meet the demands of technologies such as 5G, the Internet of Things, in addition to delivering better services and differentiating ourselves in scalability, security and sustainability.
This new investment in Mexico, a reflection of the confidence and certainty we have in the country, is added to the other projects announced in June of this year for Mexico and Latin America, totaling an investment of 1.2 billion dollars over the next five years. , which will be aimed at four areas in this region: digital infrastructure, digital skills, entrepreneurial ecosystem and inclusive and sustainable communities”.
For his part, this was what Gabriel Yorio, Undersecretary of Finance and Public Credit, mentioned:
“The creation of the Google cloud region in Mexico confirms that the country is one of the main recipients of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI); in 2021, Mexico was the ninth recipient of FDI in the world.
It will be crucial in the Mexican financial sector, since the Mexican jurisdiction will have a greater capacity to transcend the physical infrastructure and the banks will be able to use the digital infrastructure more intensively, once they comply with our regulations, this will contribute to making Mexico a financial and digital hub”.
This will be the third cloud region in Latin Americaalong with those of Santiago, Chile, and São Paulo, Brazil, and although at the moment it is unknown exactly where the servers will be installed, it has been mentioned that this decision will be made after an analysis regarding the best geographical area in question of energy, costs and proximity to customers.
Undoubtedly, great news that will benefit a large sector of the country. In related topics, Google will look at ways to decrease GPU consumption with Chrome. Similarly, young people prefer to search for information on TikTok before Google.
