After the announcement of a partnership with certain media where Google undertakes to pay more than a billion dollars, we now learn that the American giant has just reached an agreement that concerns the remuneration of neighboring rights, which is none other than French law. Explanations.
Google is making more and more efforts with the French media
It is a debate that has been raging for many months and which is now official, namely the remuneration of French media by Google. Concretely, this means that the French media which participate in political or general information and which have a large volume of publication, as well as a substantial audience, will be paid by Google when their information is included in Actualités (or News in English), something which until then was not effective.
This agreement which bears the name “agreement relating to the use of online press publications” has just been validated between Google and the Alliance de la Presse d’Information Générale. This is a big step for the Competition Authority, which wanted the remuneration of neighboring rights, as indicated by French law, to be applied.
As a reminder, a few months ago, Google had already launched its News Showcase program, which will be a partnership where the Mountain View firm promises an investment of one billion dollars to certain news editors.
Good news for the French press.
