Gender parity is a struggle that is taking place in several industries, especially in technology. The Google company is aware that there is still a long way to go for women in this area, where according to data they are a minority, so it is using some support tools.

Consulting firm Michael Page reviewed by Google, detailed that the gender disparity begins in schools, as fewer female students than male students are studying engineering or applied science.

The firm highlights that in Mexico only 8% study engineering or applied science, Therefore, at the same time, the lack of female models in the area discourages others from joining.

Likewise, the consultant indicates that 20% fewer women apply, than men because they understand that they must meet 100% of the requested requirements.

Google generates new opportunities and tools focused on women

The US tech company says it ran a free vocational training program for women. The program that It is called Grow with Google was developed during the month of International Women’s Day where the brand held a celebration for Latin America in which 90 thousand women participated to be trained and empowered in digital and business skills, cybersecurity, leadership and self-promotion.

“Our commitment to promoting a more diverse and inclusive work environment applies to the universe within the company, but it also has external consequences with initiatives such as Grow with Google,” the company indicates.

Also, the California-based company made another tool to empower women. Well, through a marketing campaign, it brought together 60 female influencers from Mexico and Argentina, to make an adaptation of the film Hero in each country, which included videos of the first local women to lead different fields such as sports, science, art and culture.

While using the YouTube digital platform, in Mexico and as part of Google’s commitment to UN Women, it launched “My Own Challenge”.

This program brought together 14 creators, artists and experts, for eight days to talk about their challenges to increase self-esteem and self-confidence as a way to avoid gender-based violence.

“The reality portrayed in the ‘Women in Technology’ study makes it clear that we still have a lot to transform. Google’s actions have been a bet towards this change ”, detailed the technology company.

Another of the actions of the firm in 2021 was the Impact Challenge for women and girls, a project that allocated 25,000,000 dollars to finance organizations that promote the economic empowerment of women and girls.
