Back in March we saw how the Google TV application, before Google Play Movies, was preparing the arrival of a remote control from the mobile with which to replace the application that we all know, Android TV Remote Control, and that can be downloaded from Play Store. A new feature that already appears in the latest version of the application.
It seems that Google wants to do away with the classic Android TV Remote Control by integrating a remote control into Google TV. A remote control from the mobile that is already present and that can be accessed although for now it is not functional unless Google decides to activate it. Nevertheless, we can see what it looks like and how to find it on the phone.
The replacement for Android TV Remote Control
The first thing we need is to have the latest version of the Google TV application (Google Play Movies) that can be downloaded from Play Sore. With the application installed just go to the “Quick Settings” of our mobile, the ones that appear when you swipe down from the top of the screen.
Although they may vary depending on the mobile, (for the tests I have used a Galaxy Note 20) if we move through them we will see how a new option appears to add the new control called “TV Remote”.
If we add it, a warning message opens to grant access permissions to the location of our mobile and then we will see a remote control on the screen. At that point it begins to search for nearby devices to which to connect but can not find any, so it is assumed that Google has not activated it yet or the application is waiting to receive an update.
The Google TV remote control interface is very simple. It shows us a pad control that can be changed by a crosshair in the settings next to the back buttons, start, assistant, mute as well as controls to raise and lower the volume.
