With Android 12 already around the corner, now that the latest Beta 5 is available, Google is stepping on the accelerator when it comes to integrating Material You into its pre-installed applications. In addition to completely revamping your watch app, the new design has also come to your calculator.
Google Calculator 8.0 completely changes its appearance, with buttons and rounded shapes, many colors and changing the drop-down panel, which instead of opening from one side does so vertically. Best of all, this redesign is compatible with previous versions of Android, although in this case the colors will not change depending on the wallpaper.
Material You also for the calculator
One of the star novelties of Android 12 is Material You, the system of themes that adapt the colors of the system interface and the supported applications to the colors of the wallpaper, in addition to adopting a design where curves have a greater role. Since Google first introduced us to Material You, it has been adapting many of its applications. The last to do so is the Google calculator.
The version 8.0 of Google Calculator -which you can download from its APK- undergoes one of the most radical changes in its history, going from looking very sober to becoming a festival of colors. Colors which, of course, are based on the wallpaper you are using at the time.
In this redesign, curves also play a major role, with round buttons and rounded curves in all interface elements. The functionality is the same, although the advanced operators they are now spread across an expandable top bar, rather than a side panel.
This redesign makes more sense in Android 12, as the interface colors will vary depending on the wallpaper, but the good news is that can also be used on older versions of Android. The APK is compatible with Android 6.0 or higher, although in these cases the interface colors adopt a blue and green hue that does not change.
The calculator thus becomes the umpteenth Google application to be renewed completely, following the steps of Clock, Gmail, Google Chrome, Contacts, Gboard and so many others. Google’s idea is probably to have all its pre-installed apps ready before the official launch of Android 12, which is “a few weeks” away.
