The poor performance of the Mexican soccer team and the questions and controversies that surround our local league have overshadowed -not entirely- three news that excite me and make me feel proud of some extraordinary results led by women in different key spaces in the sport that Mexicans like so much:
- On the court: Karen Díaz was born 38 years ago in Aguascalientes and made her way with effort and sacrifice in a profession dominated by men. Karen is a line judge and has been summoned by FIFA to participate in the next World Cup in Qatar 2022.
- On the bench: Ana Galindo will be the coach of the Mexican under 17 team that begins a tour in Japan where it will face 3 rivals. She will be the first woman to hold this position. Her designation is not an occurrence or coincidence, since Ana has accumulated experience as a technical director in women’s schools and as an assistant in men’s schools.
- On the screen: Marion Reimers has established herself as an extraordinary sports commentator, proof of this is her excellent work during the broadcasts of the last UEFA Champions League. Her personality and knowledge of her are the basis of her results; the height, intensity, timbre and duration of the sound of her voice is one of her main tools.
Traditionally, soccer in the world and in a very special way in our country has been led by men, wrongly limiting the participation of women. The work and results of Karen, Ana and Marion, together with that of many other women, are very good news in a country that is going through a really painful and complex context for them.
We must work so that all activities and sectors allow them an opportunity to show their talent and build their dreams. That in the case of soccer, there are props, assistants, physical trainers, technical directors, players, managers, owners, referees, commentators, analysts and narrators who enrich this sport that is so deeply rooted in our country. The successful participation of women in Mexican soccer can be a key element that allows us as a society to put an end once and for all to a series of negative behaviors against them, thus promoting their inclusion, participation and respect. Congratulations to Karen, Ana and Marion, example of success and hope for women and men.
