Last Friday, August 5, we saw the premiere of Prey, the new film in the Predator franchise that serves as a sequel to the original installments. This movie is available through Hulu and Star+, has been very well received and has references to very popular video games, such as God of War of 2018 for PlayStation 4.
Since January of this year Dan Trachtenberg, the director of the Prey film, had said that his film had been influenced by God of War, which at the time had just arrived on Steam on PC. Now that we can see the film we can see that the influence is on Predator’s shield and Naru’s ax.

A couple of weeks ago beanz conducted an interview with Dan Trachtenberg and took the opportunity to ask the director about the influence of God of War on Prey, to which the director confirmed that both the Predator’s shield and Naru’s throwing ax are inspired by the weapons of Kratos.
While the Predator’s shield opens in much the same way as Kratos’ shield, in a certain sequence we see Naru tie a rope to his ax to use as a throwing ax and bring it back, giving it a Kratos-like look. when he throws and retrieves his ax in God of War.
Thanks to the user @nib95_ we can see a comparison of Predator’s shield and Naru’s ax with Kratos’ weapons in God of War. Seeing the movie and the game side by side, the inspiration of Prey in God of War is undeniable, but this is not the only connection of the film with video games, since the composer of the soundtrack is the composer of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla .
