The hit game from Chinese developer HoYoverse takes place in the world of Teyvat, which is divided into Seven Nations: Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, Natlan, Snezhnaya, and Khaenri’ah. Each region of Genshin Impact it is inspired by an area in the real world and incorporates aesthetic elements from those areas. For example, Mondstadt is inspired by medieval Germany, and Liyue by traditional China.
Each region of Genshin Impact it is associated with an Archon, and in turn, each Archon is linked to one of the seven elements. Sometimes the Archons choose someone who has accomplished a great deed or overcome a great difficulty, and grants them a Vision, a magical gem that gives them control over an element. At play time, each playable character (except the Traveler) has a Vision.
The game begins when the travelers, twin brothers, who are traveling between worlds, arrive at Teyvat. They find a world at war, and try to leave it, but a mysterious goddess catches up with them. At this point in the game, the player can choose which twin to play as (Aether is the boy and Lumine is the girl). The mysterious goddess captures the unchosen twin, and the other falls unconscious. Later, the main character, (referred to as “Traveller”), wakes up on a beach and meets Paimon while he is fishing. Two months later, the Traveler, together with Paimon, decide to go to Mondstadt, which is the closest city, to try to find the lost brother. On his journey, Paimon shows the Traveler a Statue of the Seven, which grants the player the elemental power of the Archon he represents.
