Toymaker Funko is well known in the video game industry, having created hundreds of pop culture collectibles for franchises ranging from Assassin’s Creed to World of Warcraft. Despite the popularity of the brand funko and from the familiarity with his toys, he has not dabbled much in anything other than mobile projects.
Funko Pop! Blitz for mobile is popular, but it’s not necessarily a major game release. However, that is about to change, as funko has recently announced that it is working on its first AAA video game for release in 2023.
For starters, Funko isn’t developing the game itself. funko will co-produce its new game with a newly launched game studio called 10:10 Games. The project will be led by a team well known for their work on the LEGO franchise at TT Games, including 10:10 Studio Head Paul Flanagan, Design Director Arthur Parsons, and General/Creative Director Jon Burton.
The game of funko It will be the first release from 10:10 Games, but expectations will be high due to the studio’s experience. Very little was announced about the game from Funko, but it was confirmed to be an action platformer. Again, given 10:10 Games’ experience with the LEGO franchise, it’s easy to imagine what an action-platformer from the team might look like.
In addition, a short trailer was published with the pet of funko, Freddy Funko, fully animated. Most likely, the trailer was just an event of what an animated Funko could look like, but it also teased some weird objects at the end, like various crowns, pizza, and what looks like a treasure chest.
