We are two weeks away from the release of God of War: Ragnarokthe new video game of the saga after four years of the arrival of the God of War of 2018, and for Eric Williams, director of the title, is a “refined continuation” of the previous installment.
In an interview with GamesRadarWilliams explained that this sequel, more than relaunching the franchise or marking an evolution, refines some features that were seen in the prequel.
In God of War: Ragnarök we will see the chests of Nornir and the ravens again, but improved: “Ravens, for example, I think you’ll be surprised when you see that they have their own story with their own culmination at the end of the game”.
“Even the chests of Nornir, we talk about them in a slightly different way to think about how and why they are placed where they are. And we try to recognize everything so that everything makes sense within the world. But in the end, at the same time, we also have completely new material, so I think it works, there’s no reason to get rid of it”.
For Eric Williams, “the sequels are not always going to be such an important step” and assured that in the new game we will see a refined continuation.
“The sequel is going to be refined and it’s going to be a continuation, especially in the story space. It would have taken us forever to rebuild the entire game and then take that story. If you liked it (the reboot), we’ll give you that, but we’re going to do a lot more refinement”.
Gameplay Details
On the gameplay, Williams explained that “combat is highly refined” and alluded to the new set of elemental powers that Kratos can use.
He highlighted: ”There’s a lot going on really fast, and it gives you time to start expressing Kratos in a different way. For example, if I want to be a tank Kratos, or a status or magic effect Kratos… you can make those decisions now.”.
God of War: Ragnarök is coming to PlayStation consoles on November 9. Kratos and Atreus, father and son, return, this time to face the Norse gods of Asgard.
