The Colombian President, Gustavo Petro, faced with the risks of global recession, proposed to the members of Acopi, to build an alliance between the State and the popular economy with opening to a cooperative, digital and public credit system, with the aim of “weathering” the situation.
The approach was given at the opening of the National Congress of the Colombian Association of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Acopi), which was held at the Dann Carlton Hotel in Barranquilla, Colombia.
“Now what I propose to you -he said- is to build a fundamental alliance between the State and the popular economy, with one objective: to strengthen it, so that it becomes the true lever of agricultural and industrial development in Colombia, which are the fundamental nuclei of the generation of wealth” expressed Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia.
The head of state, He explained that for his government, it is evident that the popular economy is in need of credits, which considered that these credits will not “come from the traditional Colombian financial system”, for which a national development bank is necessary, even with development credit. ”.
“The drop by drop has to disappear from the popular economy and has to be replaced by a cooperative credit system, digital, if you will, but also public: a national development bank, because development is in the popular economy”assured the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro.
To take this step, the president indicated that there must be a transformation process, “The second-tier funds that remain from the Government can be transformed, all of them, into a first-tier bank for the development of the Colombian popular economy”.
And he added that the Banco Agrario can be developed as a bank to promote the popular urban economy of the country, assisting the popular economy with cheaper credits, even when the interest rate of the Banco de la República rises.
Likewise, he pointed out that “Moving towards this direction entails promoting “technological transfer mechanisms, digital literacy and associativity as a form of empowerment”.
“The lone ranger in the popular economy goes only towards his sacrifice. Only free associativity is the one that allows defending itself and the State, the Government, must be there to help that associativity”indicated the president.
