The 2022-23 Formula E season will be the first to be played with the new ‘Gen3’, the single-seaters resulting from the new technical regulations for the electric series. As a result of this circumstance, the ‘Season Nine’ is drawn as a key campaign in the projection and expansion of the category. Although there are still different aspects of the technical, sporting and financial regulations to be defined, the promoter of Formula E has published the calendar for the next season. A really ambitious calendar with eighteen races in thirteen ePrix that has some important new features.
Despite the fact that Formula E maintains the 2022-23 season nomenclature, the truth is that the development of the entire campaign takes place in 2023. Only the pre-season test in Valencia falls outside this time frame, since the official test of the category will take place between December 11 and 14 this year. The ‘Gen3’ will debut in competition at the Mexico ePrix on January 14, 2023before traveling to Ad-Diriyah for the first double event of the season.
The first novelty on the calendar is the inclusion of the Hyderabab ePrix, in India, an event that had already been presented and confirmed previously. Two appointments to be determined will give continuity to the championship before compete in Sao Paulo, another of the tests that makes its debut in the championship. Berlin and Monaco will host Formula E next. The series will travel to Seoul for a double ePrix. The Jakarta event will have the same format. The season will close with an event yet to be determined and two double ePrix in Rome and London, both in July.
After the approval of the calendar by the World Motor Sport Council, Alberto Longo as head of Formula E has pointed out: «The calendar of the ‘Season Nine’ is the broadest and most dynamic to date. We will continue to push the boundaries of the series with the Hyderabad and Sao Paulo ePrixwhile maintaining already popular races in Ad-Diriyah, Mexico City, Berlin, Monaco, Rome or London. We are working hard to include Cape Town and a US race to draw a perfect schedule for our 12 teams and 24 drivers.”
Jamie ReigleCEO of Formula E, added: “From the first round in Mexico City to the finish in London, we have a perfect setting for draw the most successful Formula E season so far. The ‘Gen3’ will show that high performance and sustainability can coexist without compromise on one side or the other. Maserati, McLaren Racing and Abt join the series to define a unique grid. We look forward to the ‘Season Nine’ continuing our drive to grow the category.”
