The last meeting of the World Motor Council has served to give the go-ahead to the final version of the 2021-22 calendar of Formula E. Although the ‘Season Eight’ maintains the biannual format, in practice the event concentrates its activity between January and August 2022, with a calendar that defines a total of 16 races in 12 different cities. In an attempt to regain normalcy, the Formula E calendar includes important news with ePrix such as those held in Jakarta or Vancouver and others that have been recovered within the championship plans such as the event in China and the Seoul ePrix.
Formula E’s eighth campaign kicks off in January with Ad-Diriyah’s double ePrix, an appointment that takes place at night. From there, the electrical contest will travel to Mexico for its second ePrix, recovering the event at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez after his absence this year – replaced by Puebla. New Cape Town ePrix announced in first draft becomes undefined, and then travel to China and, later, to Europe. The test block in the old continent is made up of Rome, Monaco after their decision to be part of Formula E every year and Berlin. From there, Formula E will travel to Indonesia to compete in the new Jakarta ePrix.
The final stretch of the calendar kicks off with the new Vancouver ePrix on July 2. After Canada, Formula E will have three double ePrix in New York, London and Seoul to end his campaign on August 13 and 14 in the Korean city. All these tests will also be affected by some regulatory changes. The two main modifications of the regulation go through a new output protocol that allows defining a standstill start instead of a restart under Safety Carboth at the beginning of an ePrix with unfavorable track conditions and in a race interrupted by an incident. What’s more, the power of the single-seaters will increase in their ‘basal’ mode from 200 to 220 kW. There are also changes to the qualifying and race formats.
