The regulatory revolution of 2022 will make the new single-seaters more similar to each other, thus favoring equality between teams, with 18-inch tires that will rest on exactly the same rims for all the teams on the grid.
The 2022 Formula 1 season will bring together several elements that, at least before the official preseason that will take place between Barcelona and Bahrain even begins, the fans perceive as the necessary inducements to enjoy a rivalry on the track even more spectacular than last year.
The new sports regulations, with single-seaters more similar to a Formula 2 that to those who have starred in the queen category of motorsport in recent decades, will theoretically allow more intense battles between the drivers, with the firm objective of allowing the cars to run a short distance from each other, thus favoring extreme battles without that the dirty air of the car in front influences so much at the time of the attack.
In addition to these aerodynamic changes, the development of power units will be frozen on February 28, precisely between the two initial test weeks before everything begins on March 20 with the occasion of the first official Grand Prix of the season.
tires for everyone
After Pirelli confirmed itself as the sole supplier of tires in Formula 1 until at least 2024, the ‘Great Circus’ opted for go from 13-inch tires to 18-inch tires, thus entrusting those commanded by Mario Isola with the task of working on them and manufacturing a tire with guarantees for the new generation of single-seaters.
In turn, in 2022 the wheels will become a common part for the entire grid: boards will return to Formula 1 after winning the tender in 2019, a subsequent meeting of the World Council of Motor Sport and announcing it at the recent Tokyo Motor Show.
Hand in hand with Ferrari as a tire supplier for those in Maranello in 2011 in its last year between single-seaters, BBS went bankrupt in 2020, but the FIA and Formula 1 have ensured that the necessary checks for its resurgence have been carried out. As was the case with Force India before it became Racing Point, entering bankruptcy it was the only viable solution for this German manufacturer to return to normal.
Despite several initial complaints by some teams on the grid, in relation to the old link between BBS and Ferrari, the fact of not having recent information on tires even similar to those that will be used in 2022 has dispelled any hint of doubt.
