Given this, it is estimated that there are 350,000 delivery people per application that serve 2 million people who place food orders.

According to the report Home delivery platforms in the Mexican economy, carried out by the National Laboratory of Public Policies of CIDE and the MX Internet Association, since 2012, when the first digital platform, the self-employment has increased by 150 percent.

In this way, it is estimated that currently 243,794 people work as app delivery drivers and by 2025, 85,000 more could be added to this occupation.

The same source points out that in terms of income, since 2012 the work by application shows a growth of 117 percent in the earnings of the distributors, which contrasts with the 25 percent increase that the perceptions of all those employed in the country.

In a completely digitized world, employment opportunities are very broad, and according to the survey carried out by the research firm Quadrant Strategies, it stands out that 8 out of 10 respondents said that flexibility is the great reason why they prefer to be drivers associated with an app, or deliver to homes.

It is worth mentioning that people value their time at work more after the Covid-19 pandemic, which completely changed the lives of many and especially their work mentality.

Given this, the survey also reports that 6 out of 10 people who drive as app partners have other responsibilities such as studies, another job or are dedicated to caring for family members.

That is why some of those consulted commented that by being app drivers, they can manage their time more freely, and even decide how much they want to earn per day.

But also, these applications have become another source of money for people, given the current economic scenario, where there is an increase in the prices of goods and services, for which reason the delivery men and drivers consulted admitted in 83 percent that this occupation helps them financially.

Also, 69 percent said they have associated with the application because they resent the inflationary impact on prices.

Currently, the market for applications of this style is a large market in Mexico, where another recent investigation published by DiDi showed how women have become independent thanks to their work and earnings recorded on these sites.

In its investigation, the brand highlighted that since its arrival in the country, the company has promoted programs to promote gender equality and encourage the presence of women in the digital economy.

“For example, since 2020, through the function that connects DiDi Mujer drivers and passengers, more than 2 million trips have been made. Another piece of information about the presence of women is that 12 percent of historical trips carried out through the DiDi application have been made by female drivers”, she explains.

And this is how technology continues to be a good help for people around the world, especially when it comes to creating more money and income for their expenses.
