The adventures of Cloud and company are passed to board games.
Apart from the three main installments of Final Fantasy VII Remake planned, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – Reunion, multiplayer spin-offs and the rest of the versions of the Square Enix classic for mobile devices, the truth is that the company’s commitment japanese has become transmedia with the development of a new gamebut in the form of a board game.
Specifically, it would be two board games based on Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the Final Fantasy spin-off Chocobo’s Dungeon. It has not enjoyed a hype and cymbal announcement by the Japanese video game publisher, but they could already be seen promoted at a recent industry convention last week.
Final Fantasy VII Remake becomes transmedia
Both games could be seen announced at the Essen Spiel fair at the stand of the Japanese publisher Hobby Japan. Of Final Fantasy VII Remake “original board game” is said to be “coming soon” with no further information, while the Chocobo’s Dunegeon game would arrive in 2023. There is also no additional information on this game (via Rockpapershotgun).
At the moment there is no idea how these adaptations can be carried out, with Final Fantasy VII Remake clearly being the most difficult to bring to cardboard. Chocobo’s Dungeon was after all a 2007 Wii game from dungeon exploration that it could have less complication when it comes to bringing its mechanics to the board.
Another important doubt in this type of video game adaptations in the form of board games is whether or not it will come to our country. It would be necessary to look at the history of the publisher in relation to Spain, since it would not be the first time that adaptations of this style do not come out of Japan.
We will have to wait a little longer to know the release date of these Final Fantasy VII Remake and Chocobo’s Dungeon board games. For now, Square Enix plans to release several installments of the series, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy Reunion will arrive next December, while Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will do the same in winter 2023.
