The new FIAT Type Hybrid has been presented in society. The FIAT compact bets on electrification with a 48-volt light hybrid mechanics that allows it to show off the ECO label. An engine that stands out for its level of efficiency and performance. The introduction of the new Type Hybrid means completing the process of electrification of the FIAT range.
FIAT has completed the electrification process of its range. The Italian company has officially presented the new FIAT Type Hybrid. The very interesting compact that stands out, among other things, for being one of the most affordable models in its competitive category, succumbs to electrification. And it does so by betting on 48-volt light hybrid technology (MHEV).
The entry on the scene of the new Type Hybrid, which is added to the FIAT 500X Hybrid also presented, represents the addition to the offer of a motorization that brings with it the ECO environmental label of the DGT (General Directorate of Traffic) with all the advantages of mobility what does it mean In addition, FIAT hopes to give a strong boost to the sales of a model that has surpassed the barrier of one million registrations since its launch.
The equipment and range of the new FIAT Tipo Hybrid
The FIAT Tipo can boast of having a wide and varied range. The Type family is made up of four trim levels (Type, City Life, City Cross and Cross). To this must be added three body variants
(Hatchback, Station Wagon and Sedan). In addition, we have a selection of petrol and diesel engines that are now being added to the new Hybrid version.
The brand has indicated the equipment
that the new Type Hybrid has. Especially when it comes to driving assistance systems. Among other technologies, it can be equipped with a fatigue alert system, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, lane control and blind spot detection. Also worth noting is the keyless entry and start system, rear view camera and wireless charger for compatible mobile phones.
The light hybrid engine of the new FIAT Tipo Hybrid
In the mechanical section of the new Type Hybrid, if we take a look under its hood, we will find a 1.5-litre four-cylinder FireFly petrol engine that develops a power of up to 130 hp and 240 Nm of maximum torque. A block that is electrified with 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) technology. A small 48-volt electric motor provides 15 kW (20 hp).
It is driven through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The power is sent to the front axle. The powertrain enables the Italian compact accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9 seconds. The power of the petrol engine is supported by the 100% electric silent start BSG electric motor and by the e-motor that improves efficiency and dynamics.
Efficiency is one of the keys to this technology since the car has the ability to travel with the internal combustion engine off. This means significant fuel savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions. And it is that, like the new 500X Hybrid, this is the first FIAT hybrid that uses the electric motor completely disconnecting the gasoline engine.
FIAT stresses that the petrol engine can idle up to 47% of the time based on the total WLTP cycle. Only in the urban cycle, the percentage rises to 62%. The result is a gasoline engine that consumes less than a diesel in the urban cycle. 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers compared to 5.0 l/100 km. In addition, performance has not been sacrificed to achieve this level of efficiency.
But, Under what conditions can the Type Hybrid circulate with the heat engine off? The e-launch function allows starting in 100% electric mode and continuing to drive in full electric mode depending on power demand and battery charge level. The electric-only power supply can also be used for the e-creeping function, making a series of short movements forward, for example, in a traffic jam (e-queueing). The car can also be parked in fully electric mode, either in first gear or in reverse (e-parking).
Launch date and production of the new FIAT Tipo Hybrid
When will it be available? The marketing of the new Type Hybrid will start imminently in the main European markets. The order book will be open this month of February and the first units will arrive at dealers from April. The mass production process will be carried out at the facilities that Stellantis has in Tofas (Turkey).
