Nintendo has received a complaint to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for allegedly violating an anonymous employee’s right to unionize. The information revealed by Axios indicates that Nintendo of Americatogether with the recruitment company Aston Carter, carried out “coercive actions” towards the worker in an attempt to impede their right to organize.
The complaint, filed in Washington, does not detail exactly what happened and remains in postulates as “coercive declarations” that can mean retaliation, dismissal, refusal to hire or threaten unionized workers.
Now, it’s been Nintendo itself, which has come to the fore of the information to give its version, shared by the media:
“We are aware of the claim, which was filed with the National Labor Relations Board by an employee who was previously terminated for disclosing confidential information and for no other reason. Nintendo is not aware of any attempted unionization or related activity and intends to cooperate with the investigation conducted by the NLRB.
Nintendo is fully committed to providing a welcoming and supportive work environment for all of our employees and contractors. We take employment matters very seriously.”
In any event, the NLRB has yet to consider what happened, launch an investigation if required, or dismiss the entire case. In addition, if it goes ahead, it would have to be clear whose responsibility it is, if Nintendo of America or Aston Carter. It is estimated that the process to reach a conclusion will take between seven and fourteen weeks.
On the other side, the gender discrimination lawsuit against PlayStation It has been mostly dismissed, although there are still legal channels for part of it to go ahead.
