Here we bring you the third part of the exclusive interview with Xochitl Gomez to talk about his role America Chavez in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
But first, the young actress told us what it was like for her to enter the part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe dedicated to Doctor Strange and what the Multiverse is.
I loved how America was placed in a Doctor Strange movie because she has an uncanny ability to travel the Multiverse. It doesn’t look forced so it works great. I am very happy because the writers have been able to fit this skill perfectly. And I love how young it is because it’s something we’ve never seen before. It is a combination that works very well. I think people will like it a lot.
The multiverse is a theory based on the simultaneous existence of many universes. That is, there are many universes that exist at the same time and in which there are the same people and where many similar events also take place. But there is something very different in each universe. So visiting all those universes is a very difficult task. When you do you have the opportunity to meet your other self. Then everything gets crazy and things get out of control.
As you have mentioned on other occasions, the version of América Chávez that we see in the film differs in several aspects from the version in the comics.
Well, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe he is younger. America is 14 years old, which means that she is the youngest superhero in all of comics. There is a lot of material to investigate. Screenwriter Michael Waldron did a new pre-comics story. She continues to display her combativeness and that tough exterior appearance. But there is also a teenage energy that I love.
In this movie, America tries to figure out how to control her powers. That leads her on a very crazy journey that is the heart of the film. She is very confident in herself. Even when everything is against her, she shows great confidence. That’s why I identify with her. We want to make sure that the public cares about what’s happening to America at all times.
And while America is an important character in the film, so is her relationship with Strange.
I think Doctor Strange is kind of a mentor to America. It’s complicated. I think that Doctor Strange would not agree and that complicates the relationship between them a lot. They are a combo whose pieces do not seem to fit. But for some reason it ends up working.
