An already traditional contest in which each year the best skewer on the Costa del Sol is chosen and to which only professional skewers from any municipality on the Eastern and Western Costa del Sol can participate, as well as students who have attended training in the Espeteros Association and the Espeto Table.
A contest that celebrates its seventh edition this year with an expanded program of activities and resuming the usual format on the beach on August 28, in Torremolinos (Malaga) from 12:00. This year, in addition, attendees will enjoy skewer tastings from noon and will be able to learn how to skewer sardines in the different workshops that will be held throughout the morning, which will also be focused on promoting the use of sugarcane at the time to espetar as a differentiating and traditional element of the espetos that are made in the province of Malaga.

And already in the afternoon of Saturday 28, starting at 7:30 p.m., the traditional skewer contest will begin, and the tasting of sardines at popular prices accompanied by musical performances will continue, and at the end of the evening the prizes will be awarded, a first of 1,000 euros plus a trophy, another of 500 euros plus a trophy for the second classified and a third of 300 euros plus a trophy.
Registration is now open in this direction and they will be kept until the day before the contest is held, until Friday, August 27. The jury will be made up of various professionals in the sector, celebrities and amateurs, and will evaluate the participants based on criteria such as homogeneity in cooking – also cooked from head to tail -, salt point and presentation. Each contestant will cook a total of two pieces, one of sardines and the other of a piece of fish to choose from, from which the best fish skewer (other than sardines) will be selected.
This contest, organized by the Torremolinos Business Circle, is not only intended to recognize professionals who dedicate themselves to this art of cooking but also to value and promote a way of preparing traditional fish from this Malaga town, an activity that aspires to be declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
