At the beginning of last year 2020, the European Parliament voted in favor of the implementation of a universal charger for all mobile phones, which it only had absolute rejection by Apple, since it is the only company today that sells its devices with a proprietary charger, the well-known Lightning.
Now, as reported from Yahoo! finance, Reuters sources claim that This proposal will return to the scene next September and the necessary legislation will be proposed so that the standardization of a common charger for phones sold within the union becomes a reality.
Apple, the great loser of standardization
According to Reuters sources, this proposal will be carried out from next September and it would fully affect all those telephones and electronic products sold within the 27 countries of the European Union.
According to data from the Commission itself, in 2018 around 50% of the devices sold within the European Union had a micro USB connector, 29% had USB-C, and 21% of them incorporated a connector Lightning. Today, there are already many electronic devices that have a USB type C connection, because these would not be affected at all.
Instead, no doubt the biggest loser of this measure would be Apple since, despite having some products such as the iPad or Macbook that integrate this connection, to this day it is still the only company that resists incorporating this connector to its smartphones, something that, if this measure is approved, would have to change immediately.
For now, not much more information is known about it, so the possible date on which all this could materialize is unknown. What is clear is that it will end up happening sooner or later since, in previous votes, the unanimity about the need for this fact was clear, so it is only a matter of time before we see its final implementation.
