The European Union (EU) financed the Global Gateway Metaverse, in which it invested almost 400 thousand euros (more than 8 million, 300 thousand pesos). The opening party was attended by only 6 people, according to information from the eleconomista.es portal.
This fact is one more of those that have shown that the Metaverse has not had the expected success. Such has been the case of Mark Zuckerberg and Meta, which lost $67 billion as reported in October, a loss attributed to its investment in the metaverse, which was expected to be a technological breakthrough.
The Global Gateway of the European Union, a virtual space created by the EU, was presented in mid-October. This technological development had as objective that any citizen of the union could be involved in the conversations and generation of knowledge about the problems of the world and the future.
According to information from the Devex platform, reported by economista.es, the project workers disagreed with the investment made by the foreign aid department of the European Commission, as well as with the use that would be given to the Global Gateway.
The Global Gateway would be presented at an event called “24-hour beach party”, in which users will be able to connect at no cost and learn about the activities scheduled in the space. According to economista.es, the Gizmodo media team was one of the few that virtually attended the event, in which there were only 6 people connected.
What was the experience of Global Gateway attendees?
Initially it had been said that this Metaverse was focused on inhabitants of Europe between the ages of 18 and 35, to publicize the actions of the EU in the face of world problems. Later the call was extended to anyone who wanted to participate.
The few attendees of the “24-hour beach party” reported that they had a bad experience when using their avatars because their movements lacked naturalness and realism.
In the positive aspects, the assistants mentioned that the graphic part was at the level of those of Zuckerberg’s Metaverse.
What do you think about it? Does the Metaverse have a future or does it seem like a bad investment to you?
