Esmee Hawkey will return to the DTM grid in 2022 after making her debut in the German series last season at the controls of one of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo of the T3 Motorsport team. Although the German formation has lost the direct support of the firm from Sant’Agata Bolognese, the structure will maintain its program in the contest with the GT3 of the Italian house. Although the number of cars that will enter the fray has not yet been confirmed -it could be two or three-, the British Hawkey will be at the controls of the first of them.
The 23-year-old British driver aims to be the only woman on the grid of the DTM throughout the 16 races of the contest, since Sophia Flörsch has given priority to other sports projects. Like last year, Hawkey will compete with one of T3 Motorsport’s Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo, a vehicle with which last year she won two points in the first race in Assen, where she actually finished eleventh. The presence of two drivers unable to retain points led him to add a ‘virtual’ ninth place.
«In 2021 I enjoyed every second. It was my first year with GT3 machinery and my first time at some of the tracks that the DTM visits. I have learned a lot with the T3 Motorsport team. With this base, I am delighted to return to the DTM this year» has secured a esmee hawkey that before arriving at the German contest he won the Pro-Am title of the Porsche Carrera Cup in Great Britain and participated in the W Series in 2019, without much luck in this last contest.
«We are very happy to be able to continue our relationship with Esmee after our first season together.. She convinced us last season that she has to be an asset to the team, because of her talent and her work. I think that she is also an important value for the DTM, in every way. As a team we are delighted to be part of the DTM againa series that we have come to appreciate for its complexity. We will work hard to have at least two Lamborghini» has claimed Jens Feuchtdirector of T3 Motorsport.
Owning a second or even a third Lamborghini is a titanic effort for the T3 team, among other things because it no longer has the support it had last year from the brand itself. In fact, Lamborghini Squadra Corse has transferred its support to the GRT Grasser team, trusted training for the brand for years in the GT3 categories. In fact, GRT will compete with four Lamborghini in the DTM in the hands of Mirko Bortolotti, Clemens Schmid, Rolf Ineichen and Alessio Deledda.
