Enrique de la Madrid promises to close the AIFA if he wins the elections
Being the son of former president Miguel de la Madrid one of the greatest opponents of the Fourth Transformation (4T), he has proposed to end this project.
Likewise, he assured that they are working on proposals to solve this problem and confirmed that the best option would be to give total control to the Armed Forces.
“The AIFA is not going to give, it is not going to serve. I believe that at the time it must be returned to the Armed Forces, so that they are left with an incredible base,” the official said in an interview.
At the end of last year, the candidate confirmed his intentions to compete for the Executive power of the Mexican Republic and much has been speculated about whether he will represent the coalition formed by the parties Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) and Partido Acción Nacional (PAN). Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), known as goes to Mexico. However, what would a decision like this really represent? What would be the impact of this?
economic repercussions
The large public investment in the AIFA could make this decision impossible, this because, according to official data, it required 74 thousand 305 million pesos. One of the biggest challenges seems to be the ability to generate sufficient passenger demand to justify the creation of the treasury.
In addition to this, it is known that Mexico failed the latest aviation safety review carried out by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). That said, Mexico will remain in Category 2 until further notice, which will leave AIFA without flights to that country. This of course continues to problematize the fact of economic compensation.
On the other hand, taking as a reference the cancellation debt of the New Mexico City International Airport (NAICM)According to estimates by the Superior Audit Office of the Federation (ASF), the cancellation of the New Mexico City International Airport (NAICM) had a cost 232% higher than what was anticipated by the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Likewise, the cost of brands, airlines and other companies for moving to the AIFA territory should be considered. Probably
In this sense, the federal investment planned for the Santa Lucía airport, as detailed by the Treasury, is made up of two sources of financing: Fiscal Resources, from which come 18 thousand 158.45 million pesos of the amount invested and which represent 26.5 percent of the total, and the Public Trust for the Administration and Payment of Military Equipment, which has invested 50 thousand 363.7 million pesos, 73.5 percent of the total.
Finally, it would be necessary to consider the fact that facilitating a solution so that the NAICM case does not happen again, and even worse since the AIFA is in operation, with the aim of avoiding millionaire losses and justifying this decision beyond the political opposition.
