This week Embracer Group surprised us by announcing that they had acquired Middle-Earth Enterprises, the company that manages the licenses for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbitso they now have all the rights to the adaptations of JRR Tolkien’s work, except for his literary works.
Embracer Group are the new owners of the rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit in cinema, video games, board games, merchandise, theme parks and stage or theater productions. In its statement Embracer Group said a little about the company’s plans with the new licenses.

The Embracer Group statement said the company is exploring its options with what it can do now that it has the licenses for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, but plans include making movies. spin offs of the most popular characters.
Other opportunities include exploring additional films based on iconic characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Gollum, Galadriel, Eowyn, and other characters from JRR Tolkien’s literary works.”
Some of the characters being considered for a spin-off film are Aragorn, Gandalf, Gollum, Eowyn and Galadrielwhom we met in the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films brought to us by Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema.
Some of the Lord of the Rings-inspired works on the way that Middle-Earth Enterprises is interested in include Amazon’s The Rings of Power series, which opens September 1; the animated film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim from Warner Bros., due for release in 2024; and a Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth mobile game.
