During the weekend, Elon Musk launched a poll with the following question: “Should I resign as Twitter director? I will stick to the results of this poll.” At that point, and regardless of the results, it was clear that the tycoon had at least considered resigning. However, according to information from David Faber, from CNBC, Musk has been looking for a new Twitter CEO for a long time.
First it must be said that Faber is one of the most reliable sources as far as information from Twitter is concerned. According to his sources, Elon Musk began the search for a replacement prior to the publication of said survey. Therefore, his results, inclined by a minimum difference towards resignation, will have little relevance. Musk had already decided to step aside as soon as I find a suitable replacement.
This, however, should not surprise us. Elon Musk has already given very clear signals that his intention is to leave the address of Twitter. In mid-November, during a trial for his compensation of $54 billion in Tesla stock, he commented: “I hope to reduce my time on Twitter and find someone else to manage it”. Shortly after he said that, in reality, he does not want to be CEO of any company.
In fact, before closing the purchase of Twitter, Elon Musk had already expressed his desire to place someone else as the top leader. Why hasn’t he taken the plunge? Well, it is much more complex than it seems. First, Musk intends structure well the organization chart of Twitter; not an easy task if we consider that thousands of employees have left the company since it was bought.
On the other hand, the person who assumes the direction of Twitter must be aware that he is receiving the company at the worst time in its history. There is an administrative crisis and a massive flight of advertisers that have had a negative impact on revenue; without forgetting that hate speech has increased significantly since the arrival of Musk. In other words, the new CEO of Twitter will have a bomb in his hands.
“The question is not to find a CEO, but to find one that can keep Twitter alive”acknowledged Elon Musk himself.
Who will dare to take that place? That is the big question that no one has been able to answer conclusively. Some believe that jack dorsey, founder and former CEO of Twitter, must return to straighten the course. Among the various alternatives, it could be the best option, but at this point Elon Musk can surprise us with a completely opposite profile. He tends to surround himself with quite controversial people, so let’s not rule out another controversial figure taking the reins.
Of course, Elon Musk must step on the accelerator with the search for the new CEO of Twitter. Why? Important Tesla shareholders are already beginning to question him because, since he became owner and director of Twitter, the value of the electric car has plummeted. Leo Koguan, one of the main investors, said that Musk should resign as Tesla CEO because he is not performing his duties full time. “Elon has left Tesla and Tesla does not have an acting CEO”he added.
