- 500 former Tesla workers denounce that Elon Musk made “massive layoffs” without complying with the labor law.
- Specifically, they argue that he did not send the legal dismissal notices 60 days prior to a dismissal.
- Musk said from Qatar: “It seems that everything related to Tesla has a lot of clicks.”
A large group of former Tesla workers filed a complaint against the electric vehicle manufacturing company in the United States, arguing that federal laws were violated in their dismissal process.
The plaintiffs allege that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, carried out a “mass layoff” that constitutes a crime, among other things, because did not comply with the advance notice procedure.
The complaint was filed this week in Texas by two former employees who represent 500 others who are in the same situation.
The plant from which they were released is the one located in Sparks, Nevada.
Elon Musk Mistake in Massive Tesla Layoffs?
Former Tesla employees argue that Musk’s firm violated several federal laws related to mass layoffs.
The most important: failed to give 60 days’ notice, a step required under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice Act. All of this is listed in the lawsuit.
According to Reuters, the objective of the workers is for the justice to accept the claim of the two former employees and for a class action status to be established for all those dismissed between May and June 2022 without prior notice.
“Musk made a serious mistake; Tesla failed to notify employees that their layoffs were going to materialize immediately,” the text of the court filing reads.
Until now, Tesla had acknowledged, but no details of the amount had been given.
According to this claim, there are at least 500 layoffs between last May and June.
As we published on Merca20, Musk said in early June that he was having a “very bad feeling” about the global economy and that Tesla needed to cut jobs.
Specifically, I am talking about reducing staff by 10 percent, according to an email sent to supervisors around the world that was seen by Reuters.
This same agency says it spoke to at least 20 people who identified themselves as former Tesla employees who were laid off this month.
Complaint against Tesla: what Musk said
“It is shocking and brazen that Tesla violates labor law in this way by laying off so many employees without giving the necessary notice,” said Shannon Liss Riordan, an attorney for the two workers who made the complaint.
According to the lawyer, Tesla is blackmailing them by paying them a week’s severance pay.
Elon Musk, from Qatar, where he is speaking at the Economic Forum organized by Bloomberg, said about the mistake: “Don’t read too much about a precautionary lawsuit that has no foundation.” “It seems that everything related to Tesla has many clicks, I would put this lawsuit in the trivial category,” he expanded.
