The Swiss Edo Mortara has won the Marrakech ePrix and assaults the leadership of Formula E. In a masterful race, the Venturi Racing driver has intelligently overtaken António Félix Da Costa and Jean-Eric Vergne. The final podium was completed by Da Costa himself and Mitch Evans, since the Jaguar driver beat the Frenchman on the last lap. Behind, Stoffel Vandoorne has managed to come back to eighth placea result that does not prevent him from losing the first position in the general classification.
António Félix Da Costa asserted his pole position to stay ahead of Edo Mortara and Jean-Eric Vergne in the first corner. Jake Dennis managed to win fourth place from Pascal Wehrlein, while, behind, Oliver Rowland beat out Nick Cassidy. The Mahindra pilot was placed in the wake of a combative Mitch Evans who, before the ‘cerrojazos’ of Pascal Wehrlein He raised his hand in protest. However, Evans and Rowland himself managed to beat the Porsche driver, very hard when it came to closing trajectories.
Nick Cassidy also had to put up with the German’s maneuvers before overtaking him, which among other things caused Nyck de Vries to win the position from Lucas Di Grassi just behind. in head, António Félix Da Costa sacrificed the lead to activate attack mode for the first time, the same maneuver that Jean-Eric Vergne carried out at the cost of momentarily giving third place to Jake Dennis. It didn’t take long for the French rider to recover third place, as well as the leadership Da Costa against Edo Mortara’s defensive move.
The Venturi pilot was almost forced to use the ‘attack mode’ to protect himself from Jean-Eric Vergne, so once it passed through the slow activation zone it was between the two DS Techeetah pilots. In this game of positions and use of ‘attack mode’, Jean-Eric Vergne lost out when he was overtaken by Oliver Rowland, Jake Dennis and Mitch Evans, all with the extra power mode activated later than the French. He fell like this to seventh place. For its part, António Félix Da Costa then activated his second ‘attack mode’.
António Félix Da Costa fell to third place provisionally, although he jumped to second place with this very aggressive strategy very quickly. The Portuguese driver’s move did not end well, since Edo Mortara activated the ‘attack mode’ for the second time and managed to stay ahead of Da Costa’s car. Also, Oliver Rowland surpassed the Portuguese with his second activation of the ‘attack mode’. Da Costa returned the maneuver at a moment of crisis for Rowland, who also gave way to Mitch Evans. The Jaguar driver also ended up beating Da Costa.
With zero activations of the ‘attack mode’ pending and 25 minutes to play, Edo Mortara was at the front of the race ahead of Mitch Evans and António Félix Da Costa. In a second group, Oliver Rowland remained fourth with Jake Dennis, Jean-Eric Vergne, Nyck de Vries and Lucas Di Grassi close behind. Jean-Eric Vergne broke this order by beating Jake Dennis for fifth positionwhich gave Oliver Rowland a few meters of advantage, closer to the leading group than to his pursuers at times.
António Félix Da Costa managed to beat Mitch Evans, showing that in the movements of DS Techeetah there was a certain energy saving component that allowed its two pilots to attack in the last phase of the race. In fact, Jean-Eric Vergne also edged out Mitch Evans to place third, in the wake of his partner. In a minimum difference scenario, with the three leaders having the ‘FanBoost’ at their disposal, DS Techeetah decided to swap positions between their pilots by having Vergne more energy and being able to attack Mortara better.
Seeing that this second option did not work either, DS Techeetah ordered its pilots to return to their original positions. António Félix Da Costa stuck to the Edo Mortara car to try to put pressure on the Venturi pilot. However, the Swiss did not make a single mistake and with a very firm stance he did not give his rival options. Mortara thus achieved victory ahead of Da Costa and Mitch Evansas the Jaguar driver overtook Jean-Eric Vergne on the final lap.
Lucas Di Grassi has finally taken fifth position after overtaking Nyck de Vries in the last instance, since the Mercedes EQ driver had overtaken the Brazilian just a couple of minutes earlier. Behind both, Jake Dennis crossed the finish line with the first of Andretti’s single-seaters. Stoffel Vandoorne in his ride from the last positions of the grid has managed to be eighthinsufficient result in any case to maintain the leadership of Formula E.
