More and more companies are deciding to enter the NFT market, as this type of token has gained popularity both inside and outside the crypto ecosystem.
The last to join this world is eBay, the e-commerce giant, which has announced the official launch of its first collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) through a partnership with Sports Illustrated and OneOfNFT platform.
eBay’s first NFT collection will feature 3D and animated renditions of gamer Wayne Gretzky. For those who don’t know him, Gretzky won four Stanley Cups, played 20 seasons in the NHL, and as a result, is considered one of the greatest hockey players in history.
“I am honored to bring this collectible experience to my hockey fans who have followed my career for decades,” Gretzky assured, according to the Press release.
eBay expects to release upcoming collections later this year that will be inspired by various iconic athletes who have graced the covers of Sports Illustrated.
“NFTs and blockchain technology are revolutionizing the collectibles space and are increasingly seen as an investment opportunity for enthusiasts.said Dawn Block, eBay’s vice president of collectibles, electronics and home.
eBay has decided to partner with OneOf to make coveted NFTs more accessible to a new generation of collectors everywhere.
“This builds on our commitment to bringing high value and passion items to the eBay community of buyers and sellers.”, they stated in their statement.
Collection Detail
The NFT collection was launched on the Polygon blockchain, instead of Tezos. This drew criticism from OneOf supporters.
In the face of criticism, OneOf assured that eBay does not belong 100% to Web3 and this collection aims to reach the mass of consumers who “may not have Tezos.”
Also, according to the announcement, the NFT collection, which is available from Monday, May 23, has four levels of rarity:
- Green: 299 editions
- Gold: 199 editions
- Platinum: 99 editions
- Diamond: 15 editions.
Prices ranged from US$10 for green rarity NFTs to US$1,500 for diamond rarity NFTs. However, the limited edition diamond, platinum and gold level NFTs sold out.
