After breaking the box office with the MCU movies, the Marvel universe has had numerous adaptations to video games in recent years by very different companies, from Spider-Man by Insomniac Games and its sequel that will arrive soon, Wolverine (also by Isomniac), Marvel’s Avengers and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy by Square Enix or Marvel’s Midnight Suns , from 2K Games, which will hit stores this year. As if that were not enough, the latest rumors suggest that EA would also be making a Marvel game.
This rumor comes from Nick Baker, known as Sphesal_Nick and part of the Xbox Era podcast (via PlayStationLifestyle). In the last episode of the podcast broadcast to date, Nick assures that he has received information from a new verified source about a new marvel game that would be being developed by one of the EA teams.
“Then out of the blue this new source sent me a DM the other day saying, ‘So EA is making a Marvel game, I heard EA is probably making a Marvel game,'” Baker says. He assures later in the program that this source told him “what’s the game about, what Marvel IP is it about”but does not add any specific details because it would be very easy for Marve fans to figure outl.
Baker assures that still He hasn’t had a chance to corroborate this story. with other sources close to EA, so he can’t comment too much on the status of this alleged development, but plans to do so soon.
Is Marvel a guarantee of success?
If Marvel games have taught us anything lately, it’s that no matter how famous a franchise is, if the game is not interesting enough for the players, whether at a narrative or playable level, it will be equally a failure for critics and for the public. This was the case with Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers. The Japanese company tried again with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but it was still a failure in sales by the expectations of the company. Ultimately, the creators of both games, both Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, ended up being sold to the Embracer Group along with licenses such as Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Legacy of Kain.
