If the first part of Dune already came with a fairly loaded cast, the second doubles the bet. According to Deadline, the renowned Christopher Walken would join the sequel to play the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, one of the enemies of Paul Atreides.
Since dunes hit theaters last year, its director, Denis Villeneuve, did not let pass almost no time to announce the second part. This one hasn’t started filming yet, but it already has fans more than excited for all the actors that are joining the already incredible cast. The latest incorporation seems that it would be nothing more and nothing less than Christopher Walken.
Walken comes from two critically acclaimed television roles, one on The Outlaws from Amazon Studios and another in the recent severity, a series that not long ago confirmed that it will have a second season. However, as reported by Deadline, in Dunes 2 the winning actor Oscar would come to give life to Emperor Padishah Shaddam IVwho is initially responsible for sending the parent of Paul Atreides, Letoto the planet Arrakis.
In the novel of Frank Herbertthe Emperor feel threatened by Leto Atreides and that is why he sends him to Arrakis, although things do not go as he planned, since Leto take control of that planet. Given this, the Emperor conspires with the Harkonnen Houserivals of the House Atreidesand invade Arrakis with the Sardaukar. The attack was successful and Padishah Shaddam IV think that the threat of Atreides term.
However, as we saw in the film, the Lady Jessica and his son Paul Atreides survive and stay with the Fremen, who give them shelter and help them face the invaders of the planet. We would see this and many other important events in dune part 2
Walken would join a cast with many recognized names, from Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya Y Josh Brolin, until Florence Pugh Y Austin Butler, who were also recently announced. Pugh arrives to play the princess irulanthe eldest daughter of Emperorwhile Butler a Feyd-Rauthathe nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard) and one of the main enemies of Paul Atreides.
After the success that dunesa film that has so far grossed $400 million at the worldwide box office and 10 nominations for Oscar, Villeneuve come back for the Part 2 to direct, produce and write, the latter together with Jon Spaiths again.
It is expected that dunes part 2 begin filming and production during the second half of the year and that the film be released on October 20, 2023. Until then we will have to settle for the first film, which is already available on HBOMax.
