With all the decades that Dragon Ball has been active, it has a huge gallery of characters, some more remembered than others. But without a doubt among all of them one of the most recognized and loved is undoubtedly Trunks.
Since his appearance as a mysterious hero in the second arc of Dragon Ball Z, the Cell saga, he has shown himself to be one of the most interesting additions to the manga and anime.
Everything pointed to the fact that this character would be merely circumstantial for this arc and that he could be dispatched outside the main plot once that part of the story had been completed.
But the reality is that trunks it would have come to stay, although the chronological linearity of its evolution is, perhaps, the most tangled and complex among all the protagonists of Dragon Ball.
So we’ve decided to pay tribute to this champion with a dozen essential details you’ve probably missed about this guy.
10 things you should know about Trunks in Dragon Ball
It has no tail: Being the son of Bulma and Vegeta, Trunks is not a purebred Saiyan. He therefore does not have a tail that can transform him before the full moon.
Very young he became Super Saiyan: Future Trunks has an arc in the evolution of his plot and the moment in which he transforms. But in Boo’s saga we see how he manages to transform from a very young age with Goten.
He became Super Saiyan 3 before Vegeta: The balance between the forces of the protagonists changed a bit with Dragon Ball Super. But in part Z there was a point where Trunks managed to surpass his father in regards to the rate at which he increased his power.
Vegeta loves him but doesn’t show it much: A recurring nod throughout the second half of Dragon Ball Z is that Vegeta was always very secretive about his feelings with the people he cares about. But perhaps the one who gave away the most about his affections was with Trunks.
Trunks is Bulma’s son and it shows: Trunks’ character design is very similar to Bulma’s, with some of Vegeta’s facial features. The light color of his hair reveals who his mother is.
Its name evokes panties: Akira Toriyama has the grace to use funny names for his characters. Among the Saiyans, for example, he uses vegetables, but in the case of Vegeta’s son, the same logical game was followed as with Bulma (bloomers). Since Trunks is a name that is also used to refer to the boxer cut trunks.
He is a criminal: Trunks has traveled back in time in both the Z and Super Saga when they fought Goku Black. Time travel is a touchy subject and a high-grade crime before the current gods. So he is a criminal.
Has a Yu-Gi-Oh! card: In the early 2000s, the Yu-Gi-Oh! A special trading card called “Tyler the Great Warrior” debuted.
This card was produced with the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant the wish of a 14-year-old boy named Tyler Gressle who had recovered from liver cancer.
The card, in theory, as our friends from ranker, was based on Tyler’s own design, but the boy was heavily inspired by Future Trunks. This is a unique item that belongs to Tyler, so it is not possible to purchase it.
His best friend is still Goten: In Future Trunks’ timeline, Goku died of an illness at a very young age. So he never had a second child. But, in the main timeline, Trunks grew up alongside Goten, and the two are the best of friends. They like to train together and in the current timeline they stay close.
There is a clear reason why he never solved his problems with the Dragon Balls: Future Trunks may have used the Dragon Balls to fix the problems with the androids.
That is a mistake that many fall into, but it is necessary to remember that in that timeline they killed Piccolo, Kami, which caused the dragon balls to turn to stone.
