The Dos Bocas refinery is one of the mega projects of the current government along with the AIFA and the Mayan Train.
According to what was indicated by the highest representative, the refinery is expected to be fully operational by 2023.
It is estimated that the refinery can process 340 thousand barrels of oil, for the production of gasoline and diesel.
The present day began the tests of the first stage of the “Olmeca” refinery, which is located in the Port of Dos Bocas, Tabasco, Although it is expected that the ribbon will be cut by the hand of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), however, it is not yet certain that it is what will occur and the time remaining for operations and the crude oil refinery to start.
Dos Bocas Refinery; tests begin between uncertainty for self-sufficiency
The state of Campeche is where 80 percent of Mexico’s crude oil is produced, the inauguration of the Olmeca-Dos Bocas Refinery is planned, which since its construction has generated various doubts, since a quantity of concrete and materials has been required, which generated that the cost will increase, and generates various reactions, due to the final cost of the facilities.
The Dos Bocas refinery, is one of the main flagship projects of the Government of the President of Mexicoa project with which it seeks to reduce the country’s energy dependency, and achieve self-sufficiency in the production of gasoline and diesel with the intention of offering better prices for these fuels to consumers.
It is expected that the new infrastructure, can process just over 340 thousand barrels of crude oil, per day, of which at least 170 thousand will be gasoline and just over 120 thousand diesel; however, it has been estimated that this prediction will be reached until 2023
In 2019 when the construction of Dos Bocas was planned, Secretary of Energy (Sener), indicated that the work would be carried out on 566 hectares of an estuary located in the Tabasco municipality of Paraíso and pointed out “The plan is to produce more gasoline in our country, modernizing the six refineries and building a new one to reduce fuel costs”
The intention of choosing the port of Dos Bocas, for the construction of the mega project, was that it is there that the oil pipelines arrive from the Tabasco coast and the Sonda de Campeche, a sector that produces at least 80 percent of the hydrocarbons in Mexico. Following the initiation of the first tests within the Dos Bocas refinery, various reactions have been generated, since within the digital conversation, the start-up of the mega project is celebrated, while others excuse, that it will be a failure, the construction of the refineries, referring to the problems generated by the new airport and the accusations about the environmental disaster generated by the construction of the Mayan Train.

The construction of mega projects aims to directly benefit the country’s inhabitants; however, since its planning, lhe three important projects of the Fourth Transformation (4T), They have generated various positions, since there are those who accuse the government of seeking to implement infrastructures through authorship, which will affect the country, accused of delivering incomplete works and with high costs; however, those who support the construction of mega projects applaud the initiative of the Government of Mexico and its quest to improve the country’s economy with sustainability in hydrocarbons and tourism.
