In this summer season, the Cancun airport (ASUR) reported that it had already exceeded its operations to more than 600 flights with a total of 63 different destinations abroad, there is a possibility that the remaining time of this Summer 2022 could exceed those numbers, perhaps this is great news for the hotel industry, but what will happen from the third week of August? when little by little they begin to lower the frequency of flights and the well-known Low Season begins.
In the Low Tourism Season, hotels and tourist services take the opportunity to maintain it, generate new services that they will offer or simply renew not only their facilities but also bet on the intellectual growth of all their collaborators, but with the changes that the markets have had after the confinement, will the behavior of the market remain the same?
Our main market is the USA and it is the one that will naturally decrease after the summer, however now with the increase in Mexican, European and South American tourism, we could consider that the famous Low Season is already changing.
But, what is the opinion of some experts about it? Bernardo Santillana Corporate Commercial Director for the National Market in RCD who tells us: The Mexican market has not stopped traveling, but on the contrary it is increasing, fortunately our hotels already have a high occupancy for this previously known High Season, this speaking of the individual market, since the group market is slowly beginning to recover.
For his part, Gabriel Fiol, Director of Business Development for the Americas at Jumbo Tours, tells us that the United States and Canada are not our market, but Europe is more linear and September is considered a good season for this market, which increases flights in winter. because of the weather, but Latam is a more stable constant that we could hardly establish as low season.
We also talked with Enrique Borras Regional Director of Sales – Mexico & Dominican Republic at Catalonia Hotels & Resorts who told us that their market is very diversified, in general they receive tourists from the USA, LATAM, Europe, Canada and Mexico mainly throughout the year. which refers to the Low Season considered for September its main market if it is the Mexican that has had a particular preference for its hotels.
For many years, in Quintana Roo, we awaited the arrival of September with great uncertainty, we considered 3 difficult months before the start of the winter holidays for the reception of tourists, the great learning that we are taking is that the Low Season is no longer a specific season because each hotel, service and tourist activity offered by Mexico and especially the southeast, have generated that there are activities for what each particular tourist is looking for.
