The concise Dodge product offering in North America will be increased with the introduction of a new SUV. A vehicle that will be closely related to a model that will soon be unveiled in Europe. It is neither more nor less than the Alfa Romeo Tonale. The name chosen by Dodge to baptize its new model has been rescued from oblivion. This is the trade name Dodge hornet.
The Dodge Hornet will be available with plug-in hybrid mechanics
It was in 2006 when the Dodge hornet concept, a conceptual model that laid the foundations for an SUV of restrained dimensions and for the European public. The project, as such, did not reach production. However, and if this information from the United States is correct, the name will be used in a series production vehicle.
Shortly after Starting the development process of the new Alfa Romeo SUV, there was speculation about the possibility that Dodge would benefit from this project to enrich its range. Some reports that were gaining strength until reaching our days. Now, new details emerge that allow to clarify more details about the mechanical section of the Hornet. A mechanical section in which electrification will be the protagonist.
The Hornet will be Dodge’s first plug-in hybrid car. An electrified propulsion system that will use a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. However, in the range of engines there will also be conventional mechanics such as a gasoline engine whose power will be around 200 hp.
Dodge Hornet, a car made in Europe for America
The serial production of the new Hornet will take place in Europe. More specifically in the facilities that Stellantis has in Naples (Italy). There it will share a production center with the Alfa Romeo Tonale. The Hornet will hit Dodge dealerships sometime in 2022.
