Are you a university student and want to live an educational experience abroad? This could be your opportunity to apply for a cultural exchange to the city of Taiwan from Mexico, this with the purpose of promoting relations between both countries and that higher level students can continue with their undergraduate, master’s and postgraduate studies at the university of the Asian continent.
This year, 40 universities that offer more than 200 programs taught in English will participate in the call, reported the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Mexico. We tell you the requirements and important dates within the scholarship contest.
What scholarships do you offer to study in Taiwan?
The report of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Mexico says that for a University Career, for 4 years; a master’s degree, for 2 years or a doctorate, for 4 years. The maximum total number of years for a Mexican student to receive the benefit of this scholarship will be 5 years.
- Degree: NT$40,000 (approx. US$1,400) per semester for tuition support and other school expenses. In addition, a monthly allowance of NT$15,000 (approx. US$540) will be given to the cost of living.
- Masters and Doctorates: NT$40,000 (approx. US$1,400) per semester for tuition support and other school expenses. Apart from giving a monthly allowance of NT$20,000 (approx. US$720).
What is needed to get the scholarship to Taiwan?
The requirements and restrictions to be able to obtain a scholarship to study in Taiwan are the following:
- Have Mexican nationality
- Being under 40 years of age
- Have a high school diploma, undergraduate or graduate degree.
- Certificate of proficiency in the English language of the last 3 years, for example, TOEFL iBT (75 or higher) or IELTS (5.5 or higher), etc.
- Not be a Taiwanese national or have Taiwan permanent residence or Overseas Chinese status.
- Not receive any scholarship from institutions or entities or agencies of the government of Taiwan.
- Not be exchange students admitted by an academic cooperation agreement between local and foreign universities.
- Not having previously had a scholarship that had been cancelled.
- Not be a recipient of another scholarship of the same type in Taiwan.
In addition to the above, for the beneficiaries of the scholarships, the visa procedures and document legislation are free of charge. Likewise, scholarship recipients must arrive at the designated University/Higher Education Center before the day of registration. Likewise, the scholarship recipients will need to join the National Medical Insurance Plan.

- Announcement of results: July 2023
- Date of departure from Mexico to Taiwan: end of August 2023
- Start of classes: September 2023
