Disney+ launched its cheap subscription with ads with a view to regaining ground in the war of streaming. Disney’s offer comes at a key time when the subscriber rate isn’t growing as fast as it once did. Gone are the times of the pandemic, where everyone marathoned series and movies, so Mickey’s house has a proposal that will also serve to overcome the rise in prices.
Starting today, users in the United States will be able to hire Disney+ with ads for a price of $7.99 per month. This will be the cheapest alternative, since as we know, the cost of the ad-free subscription will go up at $10.99 per month. For now the ad-supported plan will only be available in the US, though we could expect an arrival in all regions from 2023.
In accordance with The Wall Street Journal, Disney closed deals with more than 100 advertisers. Experts say that the income from advertising and the increase in the price of the normal subscription will produce greater profits for the company. One of newcomer Bob Iger’s goals is to prioritize the profitability of the streaming servicebeyond inflating the number of subscribers.
Disney, along with Amazon and Netflix, makes aggressive investments in content, marketing and technology infrastructure. The company has pushed all the Marvel series, Star Wars and other intellectual properties within Disney + in order to attract more subscribers. However, the losses of this division are notable, exceeding 1,000 million dollars during the last quarter.
The subscription with ads will cost the same as what you pay now for the normal version
Far from being an attractive option to attract users, the cheap subscription with Disney + ads will be the only alternative to the price hike. That means that if you pay for the normal membership currently, there will only be two soups when this option launches in your country. Or you agree to watch series and movies from Star Wars Y Marvel with ads, or you pay an additional 3 dollars (or euros) to keep the experience unchanged.
Initial reports anticipate that those who choose Disney+ with ads will see four minutes of advertising for every hour of content. At the moment, the duration of the commercials and the way they will be displayed are unknown. Ideally, they should be at the beginning of each program to avoid interruptions, although you can’t have everything in life.
Disney’s strategy is a bit different from its competitors. The cheap Netflix ad-supported plan it is slightly cheaper than the basic scheme and offers the same benefits. Those looking for a higher resolution or number of devices can pay for other plans that fit their needs.
