Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has confirmed that Disney has canceled the Die Hard prequel film that was in the works.
Within the future projects of 20th Century Fox there was the prequel movie of Crystal jungle, which it was going to be called McClane and it would show its protagonist as a young man. However, the purchase of Fox by Disney left the project (along with so many others) in limbo.
After much uncertainty, finally the producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed in an interview with Polygon what we all imagined: that Disney has shelved the project of the Die Hard prequel.
“Yes, no, it ain’t happening“commented the producer.”But the really interesting thing was that we came up with an idea to do it. It was a non-Die Hard project that then eventually went to Die Hard“.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura also corroborated part of the information that was known about the new film of the Die Hard Saga, which would show two versions of John McClane, the young man and the one of the present time incarnated again by Bruce Willis.
“What was interesting about our idea was that it allowed you to meet young John McClane and use Bruce. So it was really interesting that way. So, you have the opportunity to see both versions of him. A Little Like The Godfather Part 2“said di Bonaventura.
The Die Hard prequel was expected to begin production several years ago, but once Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, it took a backseat and now appears to be shelved and canceled. Although a couple of years ago it was commented that Disney had plans to reboot the Die Hard franchise, di Bonaventura admitted not knowing what the company’s plans are.
