The physical, intellectual, mental or sensory limitations in the human being, bring with them effects on personal development, work performance and interaction with their environment. Hence, disability needs a social intervention that values inclusion, equity and opportunities. Above all, because human rights must be applied without any discrimination or segregation to all the actors involved.
In fact, it is important to understand that a person with some type of disability has needs, feelings, expectations and dreams, just like any other human being. Therefore, health organizations, government entities, the family, educational institutions and companies must become aware of and be committed to inclusive programs that support those who need it most.
Disability needs awareness and protection
That is, disability should not be alien to any type of person, or entity, if not, that on the contrary, it should become a challenge that unites an entire community, leaving aside the barriers of discrimination. In this way, individual progress becomes collective, improving the quality of life and the development of society.
In this way, the adaptation of public spaces is required; banks, government office buildings, churches, parks, and sports venues. So that there are access ramps for wheelchairs, platforms with a podo-tactile surface for people with visual disabilities and support handrails for individuals with some kind of mobility difficulty.
In addition, educational establishments must also adapt the physical infrastructure in order to link students who have some form of disability. It is also imperative to sensitize the student population, so that they understand the situation of vulnerability experienced by their classmates with limitations. In such a way, that they destroy negative attitudes and give way to an insertion environment.
With regard to the workplace, government bodies have worked hard with companies, establishing laws that protect and include people with disabilities. In this way, companies are able to be part of the solution, while obtaining tax benefits and other revenues for it. Likewise, the professional environment favors autonomy, diversity, socialization and personal development.
Inclusion tools
Today, technology has designed many adaptive tools to facilitate tasks for people with some difficulty, be it visual, auditory, communicative, cognitive or movement. In such a way, that they can explore the world, access education and perform professionally, optimizing the capacities and abilities they possess.
This is how, mainly, physical spaces must be intervened; taking into account elevators, ramps, tactile floors, signage and bathrooms for the disabled; seeking to improve the living conditions and social inclusion of people with reduced capacity.
Similarly, the use of information technology with braille keyboards for the blind or with a voice module to write texts or read a book in digital form, becomes tools of great help. In addition, the sound signals; traffic lights, bells, movement alarms; they are also useful
Together, there are different mobile applications and assistive devices, such as the touch screen, the computer with voice control, the smart glasses or the ring that reads different types of text, provide solutions to everyday problems. However, not all people have the possibility of accessing these attachments. For this reason, disability becomes a problem of public health and social responsibility, where we all must get involved.
