Entertainment and eCommerce are the commercial bets for brands and entrepreneurs.
over a decade ago digital growth has been reflected in Mexicobut the acceleration caused by Covid-19 has caused the number of users connected to the internet to accelerate radically, generating a means of opportunity for brands seeking to reach a young audience and opening new business scenarios for the new entrepreneur.
And it is that the virtual ecosystem grew 3.8 percent in the last year, leaving until February 2022 96.87 million Mexicans connected to the network through computers, cell phones and other mobile devicesa figure that represents 74 percent of the total population.
The results recorded in the first quarter of the year have made companies from all sectors and industries rethink their business model and adapt to the changes in consumption that today define the reason for web massification.
Entertainment: the sector with the best ROI
Although the entertainment sector was one of the hardest hit by the health crisis, closing face-to-face events around the world, it also became one of the few economic sources to register an upward digital boom.
According to the latest annual study by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), published this Monday, March 14, streaming is the cornerstone of the social entertainment niche, coming to dominate the media landscape. Last year alone, streaming subscriptions rose 14 percent worldwide.
Estimated revenue from streaming platforms is around 2.2 billion dollars, reports Statista, with more than 11 million subscribers on video-on-demand platforms, such as Netflix, HBO Max or Amazon Prime, among others.
Streaming is reportedly expected to generate revenue in excess of $177 million, with a possible growth of 11.26 percent through 2025.
Nielsen data corroborates this digital boom, where, for example, the Pixar movie “Luca” on Disney+ was the most watched in 2021, with more than 10.5 billion minutes broadcast.
However, the biggest bet for brands, advertisers and even digital entrepreneurs could be found in the online gaming sectorsince Mexico is a leading country in gambling and has adopted the technology to a growth scope for this niche of 33 percent, according to estimates by Research and Markets for 2026.
The demand of Mexicans in video game operators and online casinos shows a benefit for those seeking to expand the offer of games such as blackjack, poker, roulette or slot machines, an industry that can move more than 2 billion dollars annually in Mexico and that employs more than 35 thousand direct people.
This digital sector represents a source of opportunity for advertisers and developers, digital entrepreneurs and young natives who can take advantage of the generation of multi-platform users, as it is considered one of the markets with the highest return on investment (ROI).
eCommerce stays on trend
E-commerce was the digital sector with the highest growth in 2021 and the one that best established itself among the habits of Mexicans connected to the Internet, becoming in turn the essential tool for businesses of all kinds.
The growth was more than 300 percent in 2020 and 20 percent in 2021, projecting a constant rate for 2022 of 30 percent in Mexico, giving way to a greater presence of businesses and companies in unique creation platforms, self-design websites and recurring traffic social networks.
They are mainly digital entrepreneurs who can take advantage of digital penetration to massify their offer, from consumer goods to technological products.
