Legendary at last has given the green light definitively to ‘Dune 2’. The epic movie of Denis Villeneuve based on the Frank Herbert novel will have a sequel in 2023 which will be seen first exclusively in cinemas. No simultaneous premieres like the one the first installment had on HBO Max.

The announcement comes a few days after ‘Dune’ exceeded all expectations on its US launch, already exceeding 200 million dollars worldwide collection. It is still missing for it to be a profitable film, but we must not forget the impact of the coronavirus on its income and neither that more public has also been able to see it through the streaming platform.
As expected, Villeneuve will return to take care of the staging, in turn expected to repeat as one of the scriptwriters of ‘Dune 2’. He has been optimistic for a long time about the possibility of telling the full story and his wishes will eventually be fulfilled. In fact, he has not hesitated to show his enthusiasm at the news:
I just got the news that Legendary is going ahead with ‘Dune 2’. It has been a dream for me to adapt Frank Herbert’s novel and I have the fans, the cast, the crew, Legendary and Warner to thank for their support to make it happen. This is just the beginning.
This is only the beginning …
Thank you to those who have experienced @dunemovie so far, and those who are going in the days and weeks ahead. We’re excited to continue the journey! pic.twitter.com/mZj68Hnm0A

‘Dune 2’ will hit theaters in October 2023, not having confirmed yet which day of that month. It has the return of all the protagonists of the first installment who arrived alive at the end of it and now we only have to sit down and wait until we can see it.
