Dbrand is a company dedicated to creating plates for the PS5, who at the beginning of the year publicly challenged Sony to sue them. Over the weekend, this became a reality, and the company received a letter asking them to stop their business, or face legal consequences. Although many believed that this story would end here, Dbrand today announced a new product line for the PlayStation 5.
Through his profile on Reddit, Dbrand announced the Darkplate 2.0, a series of boards for the PS5, which feature a completely new design. With this, the company mentioned that Sony “cannot sue them”, since they are using a completely different style to that seen in the first model. This was what was commented on the matter:
“Look, while we appreciated all the armchair legal advice that was leaked over the weekend, the reality of this Darkplates dispute is pretty simple: You can’t successfully sue someone for an alleged ‘design infringement’ without a registered design patent.
By creating a completely new design, Darkplates 2.0 successfully closes the loop on this dispute and neutralizes any future infringement claims from Sony. “
The Darkplate 2.0 not only have a new design, but They have new vents that seem to improve the cooling process of the PS5. Along with the black tone that has so characterized this product, plates in white and gray will also be available.
On related issues, the PS5 has finally outsold the PS5 in America. Similarly, a gold-plated PS5 has hit the market.
Editor’s Note:
Although the simplest solution to this problem is for Sony to create different model motherboards for the PS5, Dbrand has made quite an interesting case to continue on the market. The new design, accompanied by the fans on the sides, looks quite attractive. The company has mentioned that this will not create legal problems, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the future.
