On Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time
Hideaki Anno served as chief director, screenwriter and executive producer of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. The film opened on March 8, 2021 in theaters in Japan. Amazon acquired the rights to release it exclusively in 240 countries and territories globally through Prime Video.
The Studio Khara production ended its commercial run with a gross of ¥10.280 million yen, thus becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise and in Hideaki Anno’s filmography. The feature film received the Animation of the Year award at the 45th Japan Film Academy Awards.
Khara provides the following synopsis of Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time:
“The fourth and final installment of Rebuild of Evangelion. Misato and her anti-NERV WILLE group arrive in Paris, a city red for coreization. The Wunder crew lands in a containment tower and they have 720 seconds to restore the city. When a horde of NERV Evas appears, Mari’s Enhanced Eva Unit 8 must intercept them. Meanwhile, Shinji, Asuka, and Rei wander around Japan.”
